First Full Moon of 2026: The True Cost of Care
Hello love!
We have the first Full Moon of 2026 on January 3rd, and it's in Cancer opposing this massive pile-up of planets in Capricorn—Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars. All of them asking us to get serious, get organized, get our goals together. And I mean, we feel that pressure, right? The start of every year where we're supposed to have our shit figured out, know exactly what we're building toward, be ready to hustle and produce.
But I want us to look at what's actually happening underneath that.
Mom and Dad Are Fighting
The way I've been thinking about this Full Moon is like, archetypal Mom and Dad are having a fight. Cancer is Mom, asking how we're actually doing, whether we're taking care of ourselves, whether the people we love feel loved. Capricorn is Dad, asking what we've accomplished, what we're building, how we're going to protect what matters through our actions.
And look, I know gendered archetypes get messy, but stay with me because we're all navigating the cultural legacy of how care has been split along these lines. The feminine coded as emotional labor, tending and feeling. The masculine coded as providing and protecting and building structures.
Both trying to care. Both trying to love. Just completely different languages for it.
The thing is, we need both. We need Cancerian attention to emotional safety, to softness, to whether anyone actually feels good inside the structures we're building. And we need Capricornian commitment to accountability, to showing up through action, to making sure there's actually enough resources for care to happen at all.
But what happens (and we saw this in 2025) is when one style of care completely eclipses the other. When protection becomes so focused on defending what's "mine" that it forgets who it's protecting and why. When the drive to build and achieve gets so loud we can't hear the quieter voice asking if we're okay, if this is even what we wanted.
Chiron in Aries squares this lunation, asking: where does protection become self-preservation? Where does "this is mine" turn into "I'm scared to share, scared to be vulnerable, scared there won't be enough"?
2025 showed us what happens when that wound runs the show. We saw borders get harder, walls get higher, people deciding safety means keeping others out instead of making sure everyone's cared for.
The 3 of Cups: Pause First

This Full Moon is in the second decan of Cancer, connected to the 3 of Cups, celebration, community, raising a glass with people who've been there. Before we rush into 2026 with all our plans and lists, can we actually appreciate that we made it to this point? That we survived 2025's revelations, that we're more awake now?
Because 2026 is setting up to ask big things of us. Neptune in Aries, Uranus in Gemini, Saturn-Neptune conjunction... generationally defining transits that will require us to show up differently.
But we can't do that when we're emotionally depleted. We can't architect the future running on fumes. We can't build containers of care if we haven't let ourselves be cared for.
Jupiter retrograde in Cancer is asking us to reassess what home actually means, what emotional safety actually looks like. And maybe the answer is: we can't do the work well if we're disconnected from why we're doing it in the first place.
So on January 3rd, maybe the question isn't "what are my goals?" Maybe it's "how am I, really?" and "who loves me, and do I let them?" and "what does home feel like in my body right now?"
The work of 2026 isn't going anywhere. But we'll meet it differently if we arrive with our emotional home intact. If we let both kinds of care, the soft and the structured, the feeling and the doing, work together instead of competing.
I'm hosting a live workshop on this Full Moon on January 3rd at 4pm PST (replay will be made available)
We'll go deeper into these themes, break down where this lands in your chart by rising sign, and work with practices to help you reconnect with your emotional home before 2026 really begins. Link is below for more info as well as an extended breakdown of this lunation on youtube! For my visual learners hehe.
See you there,
